Session 2:

Topic: Oracle Enterprise Performance Management at Duke University Health System

Abstract: Faced with a dynamic and challenging business environment, DUHS seized the opportunity to modernize and automate its performance management, reporting, and planning strategy. In this session, you will learn how DUHS implemented three Oracle EPM applications (Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Oracle Hyperion Planning, and Oracle Hyperion Essbase). You will hear how DUHS converted from legacy Hyperion Enterprise and Pillar to Oracle’s latest EPM Applications along with the implementation of the Release 11 solution which leverages Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management Architect and Oracle Data Integrator.

The initial phase of the project converted Hyperion Enterprise to Financial Management and Hyperion Pillar to Planning along with implementation of Essbase for extended analytics and management reporting.  Subsequent phases included the upgrade to version 11 and the implementation of EPMA to manage master data for Hyperion applications.  The solution ties together financial consolidations, financial reporting, analytics and planning.  Workforce Planning was leveraged extensively to build budgets by Employee by Department and to consolidate a majority of outlier calculations within Hyperion Planning versus in offline Excel Spreadsheets such as their FTE calculation.   Planning also provided users the ability to view Budget & Actual reports in real time after inputs are made into planning web forms or via Smart View. The solution also included integration with their ERP System.

Presenters:
Laura Alvis is the Manager of Financial Reporting at Duke University Health System (DUHS).
DUHS encompasses Duke University Hospital, a world-renowned academic medical center, 2 community hospitals, 50 clinics and ambulatory care centers.  Laura started her professional career in public accounting as an auditor.  After public accounting, she began working with Hyperion Essbase as a Hyperion Essbase administrator.  Laura joined DUHS in May 2001 as a Financial Analyst and has been the Manager of Financial Reporting since September 2004.

Jason Little is a Partner and Corporate Executive of Analytic Vision, a full service Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management Consulting Company. Jason has 16 years of experience in the industry and provides thought leadership, advisory services and leads a team of consulting and sales professionals who focus on Oracle based technology solutions.   He spent 6 years in the financial services and banking industry where he was responsible for global implementations of profitability, management reporting, budgeting and forecasting systems using Oracle-Hyperion products.  He spent 8 years working at Arbor Software and Hyperion Solutions as a global infrastructure and Essbase domain expert along with various pre-sales and sales management roles.
