The North Carolina Hyperion User Group

Session Overviews:

Session I – SPX Corporation

Title: Learn about the System 9 HFM and FDM implementation at SPX Corporation

Company:SPX Corporation is a global multi-industry manufacturing company with operations in over 35 countries and sales in over 150 countries around the world. The majority of our revenues, approximately 59% in 2007, are driven by global infrastructure development. Our infrastructure-related products and services include wet and dry cooling systems, thermal service and repair work, heat exchangers and power transformers into the global power market. We also provide pumps, metering systems and valves into the global oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical exploration, refinement and distribution markets. Our infrastructure-related products also include packaged cooling towers, boilers, heating and ventilation equipment and filters. We continue to focus on developing and acquiring products and services to serve global infrastructure development, as we believe that future investments in these end markets in both emerging and developed economies around the world provide significant opportunities for growth.

Speakers: Chris Woodley, Manager of Corporate Financial Systems and Rob Cybulski President/Consultant for Finit Solutions

Chris Woodley is the Manager of Corporate Financial Systems at SPX Corporation’s headquarters in Charlotte NC, where he developed the implementation plan for Hyperion System 9 (HFM, FDM, Planning, Essbase and Scorecard). Chris has been managing Financial Systems at SPX for the past two years.

Rob Cybulski is President of Finit Solutions, Inc., a focused group of Hyperion specialists whose commitment and passion to customer service and delivering world class solutions shows in their clients; enthusiasm about the value they receive. Finit Solutions is a recognized premier provider of Hyperion FDM consulting services. Rob is the lead designer and developer of SPX’s FDM application.

Presentation: Chris will review the SPX System 9 implementation strategy, the most recently completed phase of the implementation highlighting the infrastructure and Hyperion Financial Management components of the implementation. Chris will talk the worldwide rollout of HFM to over 500 users and the approach to HFM application design, metadata, rules, member lists, currency, journals, security etc… Rob will review the FDM solution and implementation plan for over 250 locations/sites on worldwide basis. Chris will follow up with a discussion on lessons learned and next steps.


Breakout Session II - Hyperion 11.1.1 Essbase Studio

Speakers: Jake is a lead technical architect that specializes in installation, configuration, design, development, automation, and deployment of Oracle|Hyperion based data warehouse and analytical application solutions in a variety of different business and industry settings, including manufacturing, healthcare, distribution, communications, retail, consumer products, insurance, banking and more. Jake has personally led the installation and configuration of more than 30 Oracle|Hyperion environments over last 2 years and is a lead designer and developer of Data Warehouse and Essbase OLAP solutions using Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2.

Jason Little is a Principal and Vice President of Analytic Vision, Inc. Jason provides executive leadership within all aspects of company operations and leads EPM and BI advisory and industry best practice services. He spent 7 years in the financial services and banking industry where he was responsible for global implementations of profitability, budgeting, management reporting and forecasting systems using Hyperion products. He spent 8 years working at Arbor Software and Hyperion Solutions as a global infrastructure domain expert along with pre-sales and sales management roles. Jason has been designing, implementing and selling Hyperion EPM based solutions for fifteen years and has been a frequent speaker at Hyperion and Oracle related events. .

Presentation:This presentation will introduce and overview the new Essbase Studio with background on the product and the product components. Jake will provide a technical review of product, discussion, and demo of the new user interface. This will include discussion and demo points around the wizard driven user interface and modeling various data source types from which all cube-related data modeling can be performed. Jake will review the new metadata repository, or catalog, which captures all metadata related to your Essbase applications and the new and expanded drill-through reporting options. The presentation will discuss how the functionality of Essbase Integration Services has been incorporated into the Studio and help users understand how to make the transition from EIS to the Studio by understanding OLAP Models, minischemas, hierarchies and cube schemas. Lastly, using the Studio we will cover working with data source connections, minischemas, metadata elements, dimension elements, alias sets, Essbase model properties and deploying cubes.


Breakout Session III - Glen Raven

Presentation:This presentation will cover the phase of Glen Raven’s project leveraging the prebuilt OBIEE relational data warehouse for AR, AP, and GL and how GL Essbase data mart form this prebuilt data warehouse will be utilized. While the strategic scope of the investment in Oracle-Hyperion Essbase, Oracle-Hyperion Planning, Oracle OBIEE, and Financial Analytics Fusion (prebuilt OBIEE financial solution for AP, AR, and GL), is to eventually integrate financial reporting and analysis, as well as planning, across the entire business; this presentation will focus on the details of pioneering the combination of pre-built OBI EE applications with Essbase Analytics.

Presentation:While this session might be a quick review for some folks, Oracle continues to add functionality to ASO Essbase. Along with some ASO Essbase design and performance tuning tips, this session will review newer features such as the new Time Balance Last functionality, and how this might impact your approach to handling the Time dimension, including an ideal approach to simulate the dynamic time feature, which is still only in BSO Essbase. And did you know that Essbase 9.3.1 does support write back for ASO? This session should provide some nice tips for you to take back to your shop.
